From Bratislava to My Roots: A Journey Toward Myjava

Arriving in Bratislava was more than just another stop on my European adventure—it was the beginning of a personal journey. While the capital city offered beautiful architecture, historic streets, and stunning views along the Danube, my thoughts kept drifting north toward a place that has been part of my family story for generations.

One of the biggest reasons for coming to Slovakia was the opportunity to visit the Myjava region and the village of Turá Lúka, where my grandmother's roots began. Growing up, family stories often make distant places feel almost mythical, and now I find myself just a train ride away from a place I've heard about for years.

As I wandered the streets of Bratislava, I couldn't help but think about what it would feel like to stand in the same region where my ancestors once lived, worked, and built their lives. Travel is often about seeing famous landmarks and experiencing new cultures, but sometimes it's about something much deeper—connecting with where you came from.

The journey to Myjava isn't just another destination on my itinerary. It's a chance to walk the roads my family may have walked, see the countryside they called home, and gain a greater appreciation for the sacrifices and decisions that eventually led future generations, including me, to the other side of the world.

Bratislava may be the gateway to Slovakia, but for me, Myjava and Turá Lúka represent the heart of this journey. As I prepare to continue north, I'm carrying more than a camera and a suitcase—I'm carrying generations of family history and the excitement of finally seeing a place that has always been part of my story. ❤️🇸🇰✨
